Leuna

I would like to ask what are those lights appearing as a town almost suddenly from the nothing in the window of the night train. Everywhere is dark but you can then see a galaxy of bright yellow lights. The first thought goes to San Francisco, or New York City, where the lights define the shape and the form of the buildings, the color of which merges with the one of the dark sky. But then you get nearer, you pass an empty bleak station with no roof, but some grass even where it would not be expected to be. And you see a name: Leuna.

The lights shape more and more clearly the buildings, the elements of this galaxy: a labyrinth of tubes and connection of different diameters which identify one of the biggest chemical industries in Germany, or at least the most sadly famous one since the DDR time for the influence it had (or has?) on the quality of the air of the region.
The tubes are huge and long. Their diameter can reach a couple of meters. They pass above and under each other in a intricate, misterios order, full of bright spots, strange shadows, light games. I imagine, some brings air, some oil, some chemicals. People knowing people working here told me, if I tube drops some stuff on some unsealed spot they might not even know what the liquid is. They then just look what happens to the grass and the metals where the drops land. Then they mostly still don't know and repair it somehow, with highest cloth protection.
Some of the tubes seem to have no begin, no end. They just appear from somewhere and disappear underground or along the horizont. The two big tower-container in the middle look almost untouched from these metal labyrinth, and only an iron leather goes around them while the smoke flies away.
I can see this tube town for few minutes from my windows. We drive through two stations which are apparently connected to the entrance, different departments probably, maybe different chemicals. But overall the same people, everyday in this grey maze with undefined substances, breathing them, touching them.
Then Leuna becomes again almost like a night-view of a shiny metropole. But it disappear too fast, and there are no skyscrapers, and these strange smokes.
