Buying a house

I would like to ask what are the reasons which motivate someone to buy a house. Of course, I am considering someone who has the possibility to do it, either using some saved money or agreeing a mortgage.

Everyone can find online a lot of monetary reasons about this decisions. Depending on where the house is situated, on the economic situation of that country, on the prices of renting and buying, and few other factors, one can conclude whether it is economically convenient to buy or rent an apartment. Sometimes it also depends whether the person is planning to live in that place for a long time, or at least is ready to move after few years renting the house to someone else - a kind of investment, if worth for that house, or at least likes the idea of being house-owner for someone else, with all possible problems or organisation-related stuff one would have to deal with.
But, a part from that, if it is not clearly a big loss of money to buy a house, I wonder whether people should decide also based on other factors. For instance, how much they want to feel responsible for the place they own, and how much they are ready to take care of it. Of course you have to clean also your rented apartment, but if you own it you also have to care about... all the rest.
Or, whether they like the idea of living in something that is yours, where nobody can kick you out, where you can make a hole in the wall where you want, and paint how you like, and choose all the stuff as you dreamed of. If you care about all this.
Or, whether they want to have the feeling of being "arrived". The feeling that you will not move again, or that you are now grown up and you can afford to buy something big. It is the feeling of settling down, not necessarily while you will not travel anymore, but because you have a place where you could go back if you like.
Or, whether they would feel safer, more protected, in a place where they have the full control on every detail.
Is this a too romantic idea of reasons for buying a house? Should only economic reasons make the point? But, after all, what if you buy a house, it is really a great deal, but you don't care about it or you just hate this feeling of full responsibility?
This is also the reason why I think I would buy only a house I would feel myself cosy in. Where I can enjoy a cup of hot chocolate and feel home, no matter how great the deal is.
