Ironing

I would like to ask why do clothes need to be ironed. Ok, not all of them. But let's take a nice cotton shirt or blouse. That is the typical example of something that if not ironed "looks bad". I would like to meet the person who invented all this and exchange a couple of words and get some explanation. I really do not understand why the shirt has to be ironed. Once it is clean, and it matches the pants, and it is decent, without holes or strange stuff, what is the problem?

And there is a whole madness going on about this. If you travel, one of the worries is "how do my clothes arrive without too many wrong folds", unless you are willing to pay some room ironing service as soon as you arrive. Most fancy hotels even include in the room furniture the ironing equipment, as if business men are used to iron their own shirts after a long flight.
The best part of all is, shirt are most often worn below the jacket. So, nobody sees them, only the neck and the cuffs can be examined to check how good you (or who for you) are at ironing. But neck and cuffs are very easy to iron, and practical website even suggests to just iron those parts of the shirt to be sure you are fine and you save precious time who nobody would appreciate.
So, again... why do we all care about ironing?
