I would like to ask what would you think if
someone brings you a cake from his own tradition, with a very elegant
decoration on top, a certificate of the genuinity of the recipe and of the
ingredients, and an exquisitely decorated box.
I think that it is a way to try to get
different cultures to know each other in one of the best possible ways, for
instance trying excellently made traditional food for particular occasions. It
is then not a matter of how the cake will taste to you. Of course, you might like
it or not, but this is not the point. The point is, this person tried to share
with you his culture and tradition, he made an effort for this, he tried his
best bringing a high-quality present, and all what is expected from your side
is to appreciate all these facts and try the cake.
It is a different way of preparing cake, with
for us unusual ingredients, so that it might be tasty or nasty. So, you might
later thank him for the present, mentioning you loved it or it had an
interesting taste. But still, all here is not about the taste, is about the
sharing.
It is
like when someone does a very tedious work, let say putting data by hand in a
database. At the end, you might discover that it was all wrong, or you would
have preferred the database organized differently, or that the work done is
great. It still does not change the fact that a lot of work has been done with
best intentions. One thing is to appreciate, one thing is to like.
