Pedestrian crossing

I would like to ask whether that father believes he is a great example for his son, after he yelled at us while crossing the street.

We were downtown, there is a big pedestrian square, and around it the tram passes. In some points, the tram is parallel to the car lanes. If a pedestrian wants to cross, you have a standard green-yellow-red traffic light for crossing the car lanes, and then another traffic light, which is always off but it blinks in yellow only when the tram is approaching.
We crossed with green the car lane, then we cross with no yellow blinking the tram tracks. The father was by bike, as was his kid, waiting on the other side. He starts yelling at us, that we are such a bad example for his son, shouting so loud that other people around turned to look at us. I gently replied, the light was green, and the other one only turns on when the tram is approaching, so a pedestrian does not have to wait for it.
He looked at the black traffic light, then at me, then told his kid to cross. Not even a "Sorry".
